The bridge Dreirosenbrücke on the Rhine in Basel

The bridge of the 3 roses, Dreirosenbrücke, is the last bridge on the Rhine in Switzerland when sailing downstreams or the first bridge on the Rhine in Switzerland when sailing upstreams, since the river Rhine is leaving Switzerland at Basle (german : Basel).

The first plans for a bridge over the Rhine at this location are dating back to 1897. The first Dreirosenbrücke, a bridge on 2 piers, has been built between 1931 and 1934.

The bridge has been enlarged between 1999 and 2004 and the Dreirosenbrücke is now a two storey, double width bridge (29.80 m wide) integrating the highway on the lower level, the local traffic connection, the tram and a 10 meter wide footpath with benches on the upper level. The lower level is connecting the Swiss Highway net with the French Highway net through the North tangent (Nordtangente) which has been completed in June 2007.
