The Rhine in Ottmarsheim
Ottmarsheim (pronounce Ottmar's heim) is the location of the second hydroelectric power plant on the river Rhine, looking downstream, between Basel and Lauterbourg, the segment where the Rhine constitutes the border between France and Germany.
Indeed 4 of the hydroelectric power plants and the sluices for the navigation are on the Grand Canal of Alsace (French : Grand Canal d'Alsace, German : Rheinseitenkanal) which is the navigable water way running in parrallel to the Old-Rhine.
The power plant of Ottmarsheim has been achieved in 1959. Kembs, the first power plant on this segment of the Rhine has been achieved in 1932. Most of the other hydroelectric power plants on this segment of the Rhine have been built later. The next power plant north of Ottmarsheim is the nuclear power plant of Fessenheim.
